Abstract

There is an exponential increase of information on business and government due to the enormous data generated from sensors, smartphones, transactions, social media, and other sources. Most organizations including medical aid organizations are now tapping into the benefits of these fast-growing, complex streams of big data to improve their productivity and performance. The desire and need to utilize big data for effective decision making and predictions in society has drastically increased. Although, while big data analytics has been used by some medical aid organizations to improve the quality of schemes, products, and services, the influence of performance expectancy on attitudes in the adoption of big data by the medical aid organizations is still unknown. However, Akintola [1] maintains that performance expectancy as well as its facilitating conditions have an impact on the adoption of big data analytics. Hence, this study measures the influence of performance expectancy in the adoption of big data analytics by selected medical aid organizations in Durban. A survey research strategy was conducted on some selected medical aid organizations and the results show that the “performance expectancy” has a positive influence on employees’ attitudes in the adoption of big data analytics.
