Synthesize and Characterization of PVA-PAAm and the Effect of CuO Nanoparticles on its Structure and Optical Properties

Abstract

       In this paper, optical properties of PVA–PAAm–CuO films prepared by casting method have been studied. CuO nano powder has been added with different weight percentages of (1, 3 and 5%) wt.%. FTIR has been used to structurally investigate the fabricated nano composite films in order to detect the bonding and reaction type between polymeric blend and nano powder, results show there is no chemical reaction occurs, it was just physical blending and there is no formation of new inter-atomic bonding. Surface morphology of the films has been determined by microscopic photographs techniques; as a result it was found that with addition of nano powder there was a formation of aggregated clusters in polymeric host matrix. Transmittance and absorbance spectra were determined in the wavelength range of (220-900) nm. Absorption coefficient decreased with increasing concentration of CuO. Optical energy gap of fabricated films decreased with increasing CuO nanoparticles from (4.8 - 3.6) eV, which make them desirable for use in semiconductors industry. Refractive index, extinction coefficient, real and imaginary dielectric constant has been increased with increasing CuO nanoparticles.
