Abstract

Traditional markets in Indonesia play significant role in developing the real economy sectors. The price fluctuation at traditional markets can be an indicator of the national price stability for the staple commodity. The existence of collectors and the long supply chain, however, often make the price unstable. Therefore, traditional markets need an alternative institution to become the center of distribution of the staple commodity. This article aims at offering the model of empowering Market Trader Cooperatives (MTC) as the center of the distribution. The discussion will include the possible challenges and the recommended steps to overcome. This article also formulate some policies required to support the MTCs as the center of distribution.
