Abstract

Vortex generators are simple aerodynamic devices used mainly to keep the airflow attached over a surface and delay flow separation. Three different vortex generators are used having an angle of attack (α) of 30º, 45º and 60º. These three different vortex generators are mounted on the twisted tape insert of 45mm pitch value (i.e. Twist Ratio = 2). The 45 mm pitch twisted tape in combination with vortex generator having 30º, 45º and 60º angle of attack used for creating the turbulence in a receiver tube. It was observed that Nusselt’s number enhances with Reynold’s number and heat transfer rate is higher for combined twisted tape insert and vortex generator than plain twisted tapes and plain tube, because of strong swirl flow. The vortex generator having an angle of attack of 30º, 45º and 60º. The results are noted for the combined twisted tape and vortex generator and are compared with that of the plain twisted tape set and plain tube.
