Abstract

With the introduction of Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) in the power system, high-resolution and real-time data for a power system can be obtained compared to that of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. In Korea electric power system, almost 40 PMUs are already installed, and more PMUs will be deployed for more reliable operation of the power system. With the advantages of PMU in monitoring, the PMU data can be applied to reconstruct the event of power system as post-mortem analysis for calibrating the models of a power system, which is known as play-back simulation in power system analysis.

This paper analyzes the play-back simulation with PMU data in Korea electric power system by considering influential factors of when one generator is tripped. At first, the characteristics of Korea electric power system is analyzed with the installed PMUs. Secondly, the practical PMU data obtained from generation trip is investigated. Finally, its influences of load model and composite frequency response characteristics on the play-back simulation with PMU data are analyzed with the several case studies based on the practical data of Korea electric power system.
