INFLUENCE OF HOME ENVIRONMENT AND CLASSROOM CLIMATE OF HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ON THEIR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN CHEMISTRY

Abstract

The home environment is important for learning and developing the students’ academic achievement and also the classroom climate is playing important role in students’ academic activities. The purpose of the study was to examine the relationship between home environment, classroom climate and academic achievement in chemistry of higher secondary school students at Thiruvarur district, Tamilnadu, India. In this study the normative survey method was adopted. The stratified random sampling technique was used in this study. The sample includes 796 higher secondary first year chemistry students studying in different higher secondary schools situated in the Thiruvarur District of Tamilnadu, India. The finding of the study such as there is significant correlation between the home environment and classroom climate; classroom climate and academic achievement; and home environment and academic achievement. Both the independent variables home environment and classroom climate influences the dependent variable academic achievement in chemistry.
