Abstract

The paper is about the subsurface water quality in Chakrata Block in Dehradun District, Uttarakhand. Quality of water is an important aspect for survival of human existence, cultivation, industries, commercial purpose, fishing, navigation etc. The quality of subsurface water effects on the cultivation of agricultural outputs and also causes various diseases, so quality of subsurface water is important element for human existence and survival. In the study area the ground water exploitation is increasing day by day cause of many reasons. The groundwater exploitation is taking place cause of lack usages of modern tools and modern methods of cultivation and also rapid urbanization i.e conversion of forest lands to commercial lands also. The groundwater samples were analyzed for their PH, Electrical Conductivity, Total dissolved solids, BOD, COD,   Calcium etc.  The PH is varying from 6.2 to 8.4, Turbidity is varying from 1.02 NTU to 3.98 NTU, and Analysis of Conductivity is from 0.400 us /cm to 0.450 us /cm, Total Alkalinity in water samples varies from 183 ppm to 202 ppm. The ground water predominated by bicarbonates 82%.
