Numerical Investigation on Strength and Behaviour of Cold Formed Steel Built-up open and Closed section Columns

Abstract

        A built-up section connected with suitable connection systems exhibit to possess greater performance on strength and resistance against buckling when compared to single section. This paper aims to present a non-linear finite element analysisof built-up column sections using ABAQUS software. There are two different column cross sections taken for this investigation such as open and closed built-up column sections. The Finite element models were developed by considering the geometric imperfections and the material non-linearity. The finite element results obtained from the ABAQUS application was compared with the Finite element analysis conducted in ANSYS application presented in the literature.
