Abstract

The transmission system performs a significant job in deregulated power markets. This paper presents a leading approach for reliving overloads in transmission network during congestion by the application of P-Q vector diagram method in restructured power networks. In certain strategies like outage distribution factors method, active power is only considered in the process of relieving overloads. As a result the outcomes are not precise in those strategies. But in this proposed method, active power as well as reactive power is treated for relieving overloads i.e, congestion. The power flows of respective sources and their commitment to each line is assessed by applying principle of superposition. P-Q vector diagram is designed to relieve congestion by accommodating related power quadrants in that graph. To illustrate congestion management in restructured power networks, this approach is depicted on IEEE 30 bus system.
