Efficacy of interactive video clipping on preoperative state of anxiety among patients undergoing abdominal surgery.
Abstract
Anxiety levels had a considerable effect on patients during hospitalization. Surgery division is characterized by a high turn-over of patients and it is necessary to give clear information a routinely in compliance with legal requirements. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of Interactive Video Information on Preoperative Anxiety among Patients undergoing Elective Abdominal Surgery. Methods: One group before and after research design used to determine the efficacy of interactive video information on preoperative anxiety. The samples consisted of 40 subjects selected by purposive convenient sampling technique.The data from the preoperative patients were collected using state anxiety scale one day before surgical intervention and After the data collection samples were shown the video clipping one by one, after each video clipping samples were encouraged to ask questions and clarify their doubts. The data from the preoperative patients were collected using state anxiety scale On the day of surgery .Results:The anxiety was assessed in areas namely state anxiety. Significant mean score difference was seen between one day before and on the day of surgery. Significant difference was seen in the areas, in state anxiety (t=5.415, P<0.05). In the study group there was statistically significant difference was seen in the areas of anxiety. The results showed a significant reduction in the mean anxiety score (pre test M=46.1 and post M=39.6) (t=5.4, p<0.05).Conclusion: The findings it is quite evidenced that the patients who received interactive video information showed significant reduction in the level of preoperative anxiety.
