Abstract

Abstract:  The present study was conducted in an urban slum which comes under Urban Training Health Centre of Krishna Hospital, Karad to assess the nutritional status of school going children between the age group of 6-11 yrs of age. Nutritional status of children was assessed in terms of dietary assessment, anthropometric measurements like weight for age, height for age and BMI. The dietary assessment was done by a 24 hour dietary recall method. The results of the study revealed that calorie and protein intake was inadequate as compared to the reference values. Regarding the prevalence of malnutrition, it was found that 57.78% of children were stunted and 78.89% were underweight.
