KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE REGARDING BREAST CANCER AMONG THE PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS

Abstract

Background-Ca Breast is the most widely recognized cancer among women just as the subsequent leading reason for death. Women have one out of eight risk of having Breast cancer during their lifetime and early detection through screening is the best way to lessen mortality and morbidity. Methods- A cross sectional descriptive survey carried out among 150 female students .The institutional ethics committee approved this study. A structured questionnaire prepared by the researchers was applied. SPSS Version 20.0 Statistical package was used in data analysis. Findings- The mean age of students were 18.1±1.1 (min-max: 18-20), and most were currently unmarried (96.3%). Majority of the group (98.4 %) was indentified that BSE was an effective method for early detection of breast cancer. 14.9% of the medical, and 5.3% of nursing students knows the prevalence of breast cancer. Out of 150 students 18 were feeling under risk regarding breast cancer. There was no relationship between feeling under risk and performing BSE (83.3% in the group feeling under risk versus 80.4%).The reasons for not doing BSE was they don’t  feels that it was necessary and neglect (45.8 %), an idea regarding no cancer in themselves (15.7%) and fear (13.3%). Another reason was 34.0% lack of knowledge, belief not 36%, for clinical examination. Conclusion- it was been found right now knowledge level among female students  were poor, the paces of performing ordinary BSE, setting off to a medicinal for clinical breast assessment and having a mammography were additionally poor, demonstrating that students need in administration preparing programs. Expanding the related knowledge and application accomplishment among health professionals, will positively influence the ladies in their service zone.
