Abstract

Abstract: The viscosity of turbine lube oil should be maintained at the optimum level so that it protects the Rotor turbine shaft from damage due to bearings friction. If the oil viscosity is too high it cannot be pumped out of the oil tank and it is difficult to move with the required pressure in the lube oil circuit or if the viscosity is too low it cannot produce oil film between the rotor shaft and the bearing. The temperature of the lube oil is regulated from 45 degrees to 48 degrees Celsius to maintain the required level of viscosity. In turbine lube oil system, the main oil cooler is used to control the oil temperature which is circulated in turbine bearings. Soft water used in the cooler for transfer of heat from lube oil to soft water and temperature control is accomplished by controlling the flow of soft water through a gate valve through the cooler. This method of temperature control is manual process Microcontroller-based temperature control device consisting of PIC microcontroller based Variable frequency drive and a temperature sensor is implemented in this project.
