Abstract

This paper delineates a Two-stage methodology to determine the optimal placement of DSTATCOM in distribution networks by using Fuzzy and shuffled frog leaping algorithm (SFLA). The main objective is to reduce the power loss and improve the voltage profile of the distribution networks. The SFLA is a meta-heuristic search method inspired from the frog prey behaviour. The SFLA consists of memetic shuffling rule for global information exchange and frog leaping rule for local search. Here optimal location of DSTATCOM is given by Fuzzy and SFLA is used to find the size of the DSTATCOM with regard the power loss minimization. The proposed method is being tested on IEEE 15-bus, 33-bus, 69-bus test systems and the results are presented.
