OPTIMAL CAPACITOR PLACEMENT, AVR PLACEMENT AND CONDUCTOR SELECTION ALONG WITH DG USING BSA

Abstract

In this workoptimal capacitor placement, Automatic voltage regulator (AVR) placement and conductor selection along with distributed generators (DGs)is done to minimize system loss and voltage deviation by combining the objectives using weighted sum approach.Weighted sum approach is employed for optimal allocation using Backtrack search optimization algorithm (BSA) with voltage limits, maximum conductor current capacity as constraints. Optimal placement problem is also solved using harmony search algorithm (HSA) for result comparison. Indian rural 85-bus system is used for testing the efficacy of BSA and HSA to solve the optimal allocation problem and results are presented. Results proved thatDG with capacitors when placed simultaneously in the network resulted in reduced lossand improved voltage profile.
