Solar Powered Energy Efficient dc Home Appliances in Rural Area
Abstract
Abstract-- In this paper, the feasibility of conventional ac appliances to dc supply and cost effective solution for a dc home is being focused. Normally, Renewable Energy Sources (RES) are mostly dc power sources. Moreover, dc natures of most home appliances demand an alternative way of using electricity instead of converting from dc-to-ac and back ac-to-dc. Hence by using the dc powered home directly, there is a reduction in power losses in the converter and can also eliminate the cost of installing other heavy inverters. Home appliances are modeled to adapt to a low voltage dc system which reduces the complexity of dc distribution system. Furthermore, a dc home can integrate easily with RES such as solar power, fuel cell, wind, etc. and it also consumes less energy with a simple setup than an ac home with renewable sources or grid power. The dc home brings a solution to ever increasing load demand on the main grid and also to the places where main grid is not accessible.
