Abstract

Abstract: This paper explores how addiction psychology reviews and collects information from substance abuse patients to help determine aspects that are likely influencing the addiction. The descriptive paper explores how various life experiences, fear and insecurity can result in influencing an individual’s mind which can also lead to the individuals adopting health risk behaviours. This article outlines the preferred steps psychologist esp. counselling psychologists, needs to consider in order to determine addicts weaknesses based on which a rehabilitation plan can be developed. Rehabilitation cannot simply be assigned to an addict but the factors influencing the addiction require to be identified first based on which rehab plans can be developed. In this report, rehabilitations is not limited to helping an individual stop substance abuse but also includes educating and guiding an individual to understand, acknowledge and exploit their strengths which would help enhance independence and innovation thus diverting their attention from negative thoughts, fear and anxiety. This paper involves my public health related insights and psychological introspections on addiction psychology, having experienced in the field of counselling in de-addiction centres.
