Exploring Antecedents for Knowledge Management on Work Place Commitment among College Teachers with the Mediating Role of Competency Enhancement

Abstract

The present study aims to explore the antecedents’ causes’ for knowledge management on workplace commitment with the mediating role of competency enhancement among the college teachers in selected colleges at Kanchipuram District Tamilnadu, India. The study used a survey approach. A questionnaire was framed with the support of existing literatures, in-depth discussions among the teachers and domain experts. A sample size of 420 was administered for the study through a structured questionnaire. The obtained responses were analysed through exploratory factors analysis for identifying the antecedents’ for knowledge management, competency enhancement, and commitment variables and also the effect of identified constructs of knowledge management on workplace commitment with mediating role of competency enhancement through structural equation model. The direct and indirect effects of identified antecedents on workplace commitment and mediated through competency enhancement are validated and tested through SEM model. The findings of the study indicate that knowledge sharing has a significant direct impact on workplace commitment and the workplace competency partly mediates between knowledge sharing and workplace commitment. The professional competency has a direct effect on workplace commitment. The study was limited to college teachers working in different categories of selected colleges in Kanchipuram District, Tamilnadu, India. The study outcome shows that the intensity of knowledge sharing with threshold skill sets will develop personal and professional competencies and subsequently will increase the commitment towards the job and workplace.
