Abstract

The road profile excitation input and the engine vibration are considered as the main sources of vehicle vibration. In this paper, a prediction method is presented for the dynamic analysis of the engine mount systems. In this method, the engine force is measured experimentally for different engine speeds and imported to the mathematical quarter vehicle mathematical model to evaluate the passenger comfort and stability parameters. Engine mounting system consists of a pair of electromagnetic actuators and hydraulic mounts are developed. An empirical equation is derived using experimental results to show the relationship between the engine force and the engine speed. It is concluded that engine vibration has an important effect on passengers' ride comfort. In addition, it is observed that increasing the engine speed leads to decease passenger comfort and stability of the vehicle.
