Abstract

Integrating various wireless devices and systems in our daily life enables several developments in Wireless Sensor Networks. As Wireless Sensor Networks comprises of battery powered sensor nodes deployed in remote locations, minimizing power consumption is crucial for maximizing the network lifetime. A Cross-Layer Design (CLD) improves the network lifetime of wireless sensor networks compared to the conventional layered architecture. This paper reviews various cross-layer design-basedlifetime maximization techniques of Wireless Sensor networks (WSNs) and address the challenges in the domain.
