The Religious and Health Assistance for The Marginal Residents In The Integrated Waste Disposal Site Of Piyungan Yogyakarta Indonesia

Abstract

The Integrated Waste Disposal Site of Piyungan is located in the village of Bendo Ngeblak and Watu Gender, Sitimulyo, Piyungan, Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta, 16 Km southeast from the Yogyakarta City center with the coverage area of ​​12.5 Ha. Currently, Piyungan landfill is in a critical condition for the site is overloaded and can hardly accommodate more waste. This condition leads to the emergence of health, social and religious problems. This paper attempts to elucidate the religious and health assistance program for the residents around the Piyungan landfill, Yogyakarta. This research is a field study involving the residents of Ngablak, the Piyungan District government, and Piyungan landfill managers as informants. Data is collected from interview, deep-interview, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that: first, religious assistance activities conducted on affected residents of Piyungan landfill were successful. It is proven by the escalation of religious activities, such as prayer, Qur'an recitation, and woman recitation in the mosque. Secondly, health assistance for communities affected by Piyungan landfill ran successfully as well. The indications are that knowledge about health and healthy behavior of affected residents has increased significantly.
