Abstract

Significant development in applications like healthcare sector of the Internet of Things (IoT), the necessity of the medical data to be secure has become a big challenge in the sector. This paper proposes a hybrid encryption model for securing the patient’s diagnostic data in his medical records. The proposed model uses hybrid encryption algorithm either with 2D Discrete Wavelet Transform 1 Level (2D-DWT-1L) or 2D Discrete Wavelet Transform 2 Level (2D-DWT-2L) stenography technique. The proposed hybrid algorithm is a combination of Rivest, Shamir, and Adleman (RSA) and XOR Cipher algorithms. In this proposed model the patient’s data is encrypted; then the secret medical data is embedded in a gray-scale or color cover image using 2D-DWT-1L or 2D-DWT-2L.The performance of this proposed model was evaluated based on five statistical parameters; the Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), Mean Square Error (MSE), Bit Error Rate (BER), Structural Similarity (SSIM) and Correlation. The PSNR values were relatively varied from 37.22 to 53.98 with gray scale images. BER values was zero.
