India's Nexus of Fertility and Infant Mortality Rate

Abstract

India is undergoing a demographic transition. As of 2013, the country is in the 3rd stage of transition where low death rate and declining birth rate causing bit increase in population. So it is necessary to understand the association between infant mortality and fertility rate. “Health for all” has become one of the social goals, so government gives efforts to bring down infant mortality rate as well as maternal mortality rate. Demographic transition plays important role in development of a country. The present paper tries to investigate the relation between these two population variables i.e. fertility rate and child mortality. The research employed Unit root test for checking the stationarit, VAR, Co-integration, ECM and granger causality test.
