Professional Competence Requirements for Maritime Teachers in Indonesia

Abstract

The focus of this research is to determine descriptors of professional competency standards for productive Teachers in maritime vocational high schools (SMK-Maritim). The purpose of this article is to produce the standard competence professional of Teachers on the Ship Engineering Program in Indonesia. This research was carried out in three stages. In the first stage, the researcher prepares a draft descriptor based on literature studies, regulations in Indonesia and International regulations (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW 2010)). The second stage, identifies professional competency standard descriptors, and the third stage finalizes the professional competency standard descriptors. Data was collected using the instrument validated by experts via the Delphi technique. The data analysis technique used is 60% descriptor criteria analysis, 80% descriptor criteria analysis and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The results showed the descriptors of professional competency standards for productive Teachers in Ship Engineering Programs have 3 competency units, 6 competency elements, 21 performance criteria, and 73 performance indicators.
