Abstract

Power system is an interconnected network which provide real-time system monitoring to enhance the performance of the system. State estimation is commonly used as a tool to estimate the conditions in power system. By determining correct location for meter placement, the accuracy of state estimation can be improved. In this paper, Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) is proposed to be implemented in obtaining the optimal location of meter placement for state estimation. Hence, the accuracy of state estimation can be enhanced to provide better estimation of the network system. The objective function is based on minimization of sum covariance error with system observability as the constraint. Tests are conducted using IEEE 14 bus system for performance evaluation and result comparison of the method proposed.
