Abstract

In this research paper, various substrates are analysed to design a rectangular microstrip patch antenna for high frequency 5G applications. The proposed rectangular patch antenna designed is simulated using the HFSS software. Performance analysis on various substrates such as FR4, RT3003, RT5880 and RT6010, substrate dielectric constant, and substrate tangent loss was done. The antenna is designed to operate at 28 GHz. The best substrate according to this analysis in terms of gain, is RT-Duroid-6010 with substrate thickness of 1.6 mm, tangent loss of 0.0023 and dielectric constant of 10.2. The overall gain and directivity for RT6010 substrate is 7.8 dB & 8.2 dB, respectively.
