Abstract

Abstract: A new compact Ultra Wideband  octagonal circular ring patch antenna with defected  ground structure (DGS) is proposed and investigated for broadband applications. This proposed antenna having dimensions of 42 mm × 50 mm × 1.6 mm using a FR-4 substrate commonly available with a permivitivity of εr = 4.4. The patch antenna introduced with the DGS operates over a frequency range of 2.4 GHz to 10.8 GHz with an impedance bandwidth of 127.27%. The gain and percentage of impedance bandwidth is much higher than recently reported broadband antennas, which is suitable for various wireless applications such as Wi-Fi, Wi-Max and partial X-band. The antenna performance is analyzed using  numerous parametric optimization studies, field distributions and currents. A good match is obtained between the simulated measured results and those produced.
