Abstract

Most of the farmers are committing suicide. Earlier reports also quoted that farmers were not able to get remunerate prices and have to sell the products at very low prices and are not able to repay their debts due to droughts and crop failures. This leads them to suicides. An attempt was made in this study to look through social psychological perspective which treat suicides as deviant behavior. Indebtedness can explain some of the variance but there are other important reasons for suicide. The reasons for the suicides are perceived financial condition, use of genetically modified seeds, monsoon failure, cost of chemicals and seeds, costs of agricultural equipment, not able to repay their loans and labour costs .From this paper we have learnt what was the major cause for farmer’s suicide and how to reduce the death rate.
