Higher-Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) Strengthening Potential Through the GIS Story Map Application in History Subjects
Abstract
The Ministry of Education Malaysia has introduced the Higher-Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) through the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM 2013-2025). However, this element has not yet been fully integrated into the History Subject’s Learning and Facilitation (L&F). This study was conducted to examine the potential of the GIS Story Map Application in strengthening HOTS for History subject. This research is a qualitative study conducted at three schools around Negeri Sembilan. About 30 students involved as informants were divided into six groups to carry out a historical mapping project using the Story Map GIS application. Observation of informants and document analysis were carried on the work of students who experience Story Map GIS application, which was based on Bloom’s Taxonomy Digital. The results of this study found that the Story Map GIS application has the potential to strengthen HOTS for Teaching and Learning (T&L) of history subjects. However, the extent of the implementation of the CMS depends on the students’ curiosity and willingness to explore this application.
