Abstract

This paper presents fabrication and performance verification of a new standard programmable inductive voltage divider (PIVD). It provides 999 different output voltage ratios in the range from 1× 10-3 to 999 × 10-3 of the whole input voltage. It could be controlled manually using its keypad with LCD and automatically using a special prepared LabVIEW program. Practical implementation of this new PIVD design is demonstrated in detail. It has three stages and all automated measurement results of each stage ratios have been presented and analyzed at different frequencies and voltages. Frequency dependence and voltage dependence of the PIVD are investigated and the best transfer ratio errors are 1.5×10-5 and 4.0×10-6 respectively. This new PIVD is fabricated to achieve a transfer ratio error of ±1.5×10-5 at 100V and 1kHz, which are the optimum operating voltage and frequency as practically proved by the obtained results. The described PIVD has been used to construct fully automated measurement system at the National Institute of Standards (NIS), Egypt, with minimum uncertainty.
