Abstract

The project aims at developing a system which makes use of wind and solar energy for rural electrification. Wind and solar energy is treated as renewable source of energy. The project makes use of a wind turbine and solar panels. The energy obtained from both sources is stored to a battery. The battery supply is fed to pulse generator and in turn to a MOSFET which is capable of generating ON/OFF pulses of different frequencies. This is fed to a step up transformer to generate a low voltage AC. This AC is fed to electrical appliance. For simulation purpose, an Active Power Filter is developed, in which the power circuit consist of a four-leg voltage source converter which allows the compensation of unbalanced current generated by non-linear loads as well as harmonic components. A new ANN controller is proposed to improve the total harmonic distortion in current as well as power quality. The ANN controller has more effective than PI controller and can reduce %THD comparatively. Here the shunt active power filter with ANN controller is simulated in MATLAB & SIMULINK Software. The proposed circuit is tested under different operating condition through simulation and the results shows the potency of the system.
