Abstract

The alkylations of fragrant compounds in presence of protonic acids yield two alkylated merchandise springing up from attack of a nucleophile (difficult or soft) at  extraordinary carbocation (tough or tender) facilities of a single compound. Hybrid density useful theory at B3LYP/6-31G* and B3LYP/631G levels and semiempirical calculations are employed to give an explanation for the determined developments in Friedel-Crafts reaction. Neighborhood HSAB principle based on nearby softness values explains the discovered experimental reactivities.
