Abstract

This paper concentrates on generation of device driver for the peripherals of ARM Cortex M3 processor. The driver is written specifically for Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART). The drivers are very important factor in designing embedded systems. The drivers’ acts like interface between peripheral device and processor/ controller. The importance of drivers is to access the device functionality very efficiently. The usage of drivers allows us to program a particular peripheral without knowing its hardware features.  The Device Driver tool (DDgen Tool) is used to generate the driver for the peripheral UART for the board LPC17XX series. The processor used in board is ARM CortecM3. The driver works well with all the peripherals connected using UART. One of the applications of this driver could be in communication. UART is mostly used in short distance communication with specified baud rate.
