Abstract

A microstrip fed rectangular patch antenna etched with U-shaped slots is proposed for wireless applications like 2.45 GHz ISM/WLAN, 3.5 GHz WiMAX, 5.7 GHz WLAN and 7.12 GHz ITU bands. Further, Split Ring Resonators (SRRs) are chosen to reduce the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) levels of the proposed antenna. Periodic arrangement of the SRRs act as a single negative metamaterial structure which when placed as a superstrate to the proposed antenna tends to reduce the SAR level. The characteristics of the antenna are analyzed with and without SRR superstrate. The proposed multiband antenna is fabricated with the SRR superstrate and the simulated results are validated by measurement.
