Strategies for Developing Mangrove Ecotourism Based on Its Potential in the Coastal Area of Kampung Tobati, Jayapura

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) to identify the potential of ecotourism and its suitability in the mangrove ecosystem of the coastal area, 2) to determine the strategy for developing mangrove ecotourism in the coastal area. This research utilized mixed methods: quantitative and qualitative research methods. Mangrove ecological sampling locations were spread over 3 stations, each station consisting of 3 plots. The location of mangrove ecological sampling is determined by purposive sampling based on the presence of flora and fauna and zoning of the mangrove ecosystem and is considered to represent the condition of the mangrove ecosystem at the research location in the coastal area of Kampung Tobati, Jayapura City. The results of the suitability analysis showed that the mangrove ecosystem in the coastal area of Kampung Tobati was included in the very suitable category to be an ecotourism area. Mangrove ecotourism development strategies in the mangrove ecosystem of Kampung Tobati in Kampung Tobati, south Jayapura District, Jayapura City included: creating a mangrove ecosystem as a natural tourism area, spatial planning for tourist sites and preparing a master plan for developing mangrove ecotourism in the coastal area of Kampung Tobati, increasing publications related to the existence of mangrove ecosystems and developing ecotourism, and increasing the promotion of mangrove ecotourism in the coastal area of Kampung Tobati.
