A Comparative Analysis of Women Enterprises in Assam

Abstract

An enterprise provides the opportunity of gainful profession to an entrepreneur. It is considered as a right path of economic empowerment for rural youth. An entrepreneur can select any trade of his or her choice. Through an enterprise, an entrepreneur can develop professionalism. By considering the tremendous opportunities of enterprise, current study was conducted in the state of Assam. Proportionate random sampling technique was adopted for selecting the sample of 240 women enterprises. Both registered and unregistered enterprises were selected for this study. Data were collected through interview method by structured interview schedule. The study also indicated that a large majority (97.50%, 100.00%) of the respondent’s proprietorship of business was sole proprietorship in the areas of weaving, food processing and preservation.  All the respondents (100.00%) equally engaged in woven production of Chaddar -Mekhela set with blouse piece (90.00%). Pitha (95.00%), laddu (93.33%) and rice flour (74.17%) were most popular processed products prepared by respondents engaged in food processing and preservation area.
