Receive Antenna Selection for MIMO Systems with Equal Transmit Power Allocation

Abstract

A new receive antenna selection algorithm for MIMO Systems with equal transmit power allocation is presented. The selection algorithm uses convex optimization. In our scheme,  the number of receive antennas to be selected is specified which should be greater than or equal to the number of transmit antennas. Among many available combinations for selection, we select that specific combination which maximizes the channel capacity. We model the Receive Antenna Selection Switch as a translation matrix which makes the optimization task very easy. The translation matrix is derived without truncating the channel matrix. Surprisingly, the optimization problem turns out to be a semi-definite programming with Rayleigh channel coefficients as the parameters and the optimal selection is obtained in a single iteration.
