Abstract

The new call for innovation represents the shift from the 20th century traditional view of organizational practices, which discouraged innovative behaviors, to the 21st-century view of valuing innovative thinking as a “potentially powerful influence on management performance. Therefore, this study examined the effect of innovation leadership on the long-standing and unresolved debate regarding the use of management performance indicators in private university education in Nigeria. A sample of 294 academic and non-academic staff of Covenant University in Ogun State, Nigeria, were used. The data collected were analysed using General Linear Model; Multivariate Analysis.  The result revealed that all dimensions of innovation leadership has positive significant effect on the dimensions of management performance (p < 0.05). To this end, this study recommends that innovative leaders can be recruited through professional networks and referrals or found through succession planning. This will enhance management performance and sustainability particularly of private universities in Nigeria.
