The Role of Jordanian Universities Administration in Providing the Requirements of Sustainable Environmental Development in light of International Classifications of Green Universities

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the role of the Jordanian universities administration in achieving the requirements of sustainable environmental development in the light of the international classifications of green universities from the viewpoint of the heads of academic departments. The study sample consisted of (127) academic department heads, who were selected in a randomly stratified way. To achieve the objectives of the study, a descriptive approach was used that is based on collecting data from the study sample through a questionnaire consisting of (20) items. The questionnaire includes the requirements of sustainable environmental development in Jordanian universities. Its validity and Reliability have been verified. The results of the study showed that the role of the Jordanian universities administration in achieving the requirements of sustainable environmental development in light of the international classifications of green universities came in a medium degree. Besides, there are no significant differences according to the variables of faculty type or academic rank. In light of these results, the researchers recommended strengthening the processes of providing sustainable environmental development requirements for Jordanian universities. This can be achieved by preserving the environment and natural resources, using renewable alternative energy resources, preserving and storing water, recycling organic and inorganic waste and treating it according to the approved international specifications, improving transportation service and its sustainability for students and workers, and working to increase green  buildings and spaces  in  Jordanian universities
