Strategic Management Practices in the Management of Rivalry in an Industry: A Case Study
Abstract
The paper addressed strategic management practices in the management of rivalry in the industry especially in managing threats in the evolving global business industries. The objectives were; to analyze how the threat of substitution influence management of rivalry in an industry and to examine competitive rivalry affects the management of rivalry in an industry. A sample size of 200 respondents was used for the study. Findings revealed that competing within a highly profitable industry is desirable, but it can also attract unwanted attention from outside the industry and suppliers provide inputs that the firms in an industry need to create the goods and services that they, in turn, sell to their buyers. It was recommended that companies should be proactive in modifying their products to avoid losing clients to substitute products and also diversify always towards meeting competitive edge and breaking through under very harsh and competitive conditions.
