Abstract

Internet of Things (IoT) is frequently introducing innumerable opportunities in different areas. In addition, objects connected to the IoT environment can accommodate many kinds of cyber attacks. Most of the IoT systems and devices rely on the sensor networks which are liable to various security risks. Pre-incident identification of security risks is a challenging task for forensic investigators. Digital forensics is a classification of forensic science for investigation of computer related crimes which has gained rapid popularity over the past many years. Till now, numerous popular digital forensics models and frameworks have been proposed for solving the problems encountered in different IoT domains. Though these models and frameworks strive to speed up the process of crime investigation, but till now no single model could be accepted universally. Therefore, digital forensic investigation process needs to be formulated with required and necessary processes following certain international standards and guidelines. The present paper examines various existing digital forensics models and frameworks with their respective underlying processes. The present paper also highlights some processes which have been used extensively in digital forensic investigation models proposed so far.
