Abstract

We live in an era where personalization of everything is needed. Users need not put extensive efforts to get desired information of how to find something of their interest. From movies to learning, everyone has their own interests. Each individual has a unique interest that sometimes overlap with someone else’s interests. This methodology is utilized in this paper to provide personalized recommendations to students on the courses that they need to register based on their areas of interests. Personalized Recommendation system helps to provide recommendations to users after obtaining their interests. In the university set up students usually join clubs/ chapters based on their interest. The students enrolled in the chapter have similar interests making it a good choice for applying collaborative filtering. Collaborative filtering can be applied to provide juniors with personal recommendation on the courses that could be taken based on the collective interests of the seniors. In this paper an attempt is made to apply collaborative filtering and provide personal recommendations on the courses and in turn produce the time table for the juniors based on the feedback of the seniors who have taken the courses. If the courses taken by the seniors helped them in furthering their research interests then those courses are recommended for the juniors.
