Application of Fuzzy and Adaptive Fuzzy Controllers for Load Frequency Control

Abstract

The addition of renewable sources like wind has intensified the complications in power system control. The aim of this article is to design intelligent controllers for LFC, suitable for interconnected power system comprising of thermal and wind. MATLAB simulation studies are performed to study conventional PID controller performance against the proposed Fuzzy and Neuro-Fuzzy controllers. The Fuzzy Controller for the proposed system consists of 35 rules and seven membership functions that are tuned to achieve optimal performance. Comparison is done on the time domain parameters for PID, Fuzzy and Neuro-Fuzzy controllers. The Neuro-Fuzzy controller projected in this work can also be used for other engineering applications where PID controllers were used.
