Abstract

Fault diagnosis on high voltage transmission line is incredibly a challenging task and is very essential to maintain stability as well as reliability of the concerned power system. This paper proposes mathematical regression analysis for determination of fault location and rule based method for identification of fault type in Distance Protection Scheme. The proposed method makes use of positive sequence apparent impedance’s estimated with different types of faults created on part of a standard 220 kV transmission line. Ten types of faults are created at five different locations to check the versatility of the proposed technique. The data set required for execution of proposed method is generated using PSCAD-EMTDC simulation software. The results obtained shows that, the proposed method correctly identifies the type and location of fault with highest accuracy.
