Abstract

The paper presents a microcontroller based vehicle security and tracking system using Global Positioning System(GPS) and Global System for Mobile (GSM) technologies. The main purpose to design the system is to track the position of a vehicle and de-activate its ignition at any period of time if stolen vehicle exceeds the specified distance. In the designed system, Arduino UNO microcontroller process the NMEA data provided by GPS module to give the latitude and longitude coordinate values of particular place. However, if stolen vehicle exceeds specified range, GSM module as well as relay will be activated and thus a message about the location of the vehicle has to be sent to a GSM phone. Whenever relay will be activated, the vehicle’s ignition would be turned off and the owner of vehicle would receive an SMS on his mobile phone consisting the location of the vehicle in terms of latitude, longitude, time and a google maps link of that particular location. The proposed system is user friendly, simply installable, simply accessible and might be used for numerous different functions. The system is not limited to find the location of the target but also turns off its ignition. The proposed work may reduce the possibility of stealing vehicles thereby increasing the security of motor vehicle and possibility of catching thieves.
