Implications of COVID 19 on Human Resources: Case of Academicians Drive towards Digital Transformation

Abstract

Academics and research have been seriously affected by the Chinese menace of corona virus popularly known as COVID-19. Implications are evident that the academics have shifted from physical  to virtual mode. Whether rapid transformation is perceived as a compulsion, is studied here applying Principal component analysis on the primary survey with a sample of 672 academicians spread across India. This would encompass attitude of the academia and researchers regarding digitalization of academics. Study further synthesizes the policy implications to effectively incorporate and administer academic activities at institutions of higher learning in developing countries. Objective: This study highlights the attitude of academicians towards imposed digitization. Novelty: Survey based on primary data unveils policy measures for effective digital transformation of academics at Institutions of higher learning. Institutions foster people from various walks of life and community in one of the largest democracy of the world. Policies bind the institutions of higher learning with embedded ethics facilitating development and long run sustenance. Strategizing digital transformation in tune with perception of practitioners would improve efficacy of the initiatives by the governance. Policy Implications: The take home for policy makers for institutional governance is the perception and attitude based outcomes of the survey that helps training and retention of professional workforce in academics.
