Abstract

Recently many optimization techniques have been introduced in literature. Many of them can be applied to improve the dynamic response of load frequency control (LFC) of power system and to minimize the steady state errors. In this work I have applied Big Bang Big Crunch (BBBC) to design a proportional integral derivative (PID) controller for load frequency control of a single area power system which are usually applied to improve the dynamic as well as steady state performance of system. In this work a mathematical model for a test system has been developed and Big Bang Big Crunch (BBBC) based PID controller has been applied to show that BBBC based controller perform than PSO based controller. Since compared to available techniques in literature presently it is easy to apply BBBC on optimization problems. In modern power system all the power plants are connected together and load is supplied by all together. It is required to control the generation of real power of power system to maintain the frequency of power system as modern time most of industrial and commercial load consist of frequency dependent load like induction motors, electronics rectifier and converter which are designed to operate on a particular frequency, thus it is necessary also compulsion on power supply authorities to maintain the frequency within specified tolerance level while maintaining continuous power supply.
