Readiness to Shift to Cloud Based Libraries: A Model for University Libraries in Maharashtra in India

Abstract

Cloud computing technology has caught the fancy of librarians across the globe due to the advantages
and benefits that this technology promises for the businesses. In this paper, the researchers have
conducted a survey to find out how this technology can be applied in the university libraries of
Maharashtra in India. This paper elaborates on various infrastructural resources and areas in these
libraries where cloud based technologies can be applied for sharing of resources in terms of
infrastructure, platform and software. Descriptive research methodology has been adopted and a survey
was conducted. Data was collected with the help of a structured questionnaire. A model of cloud
based university libraries have been presented by the researchers in this paper. At the end,
recommendations have been given for successful implementation of this model.
