Abstract

In the present deregulation scenario of electric power utilities, in large-scale and interconnected power system determination of optimal wheeling transactions in an existing transmission system by an Independent Power Producer (IPP) is a complex process seeking much importance for economical power system operation. In the process of determining wheeling transactions, Independent System Operator (ISO) should plan and operate power systems as economical as possible. Therefore, this paper focuses on evaluation of optimal wheeling transaction incorporating market dispatching considerations. Further, the mathematical model of Wheeling transactions is formulated as an optimal power flow problem and is mitigated using a new optimization algorithm – Backtracking Search Algorithm (BSA). BSA its simplicity form, sharpness, speeds and able to deal the problems with different characteristics enables it to easily adapt to different numerical optimization problems. The proposed methodology has been tested on IEEE 30-bus system. Simulation results are presented with relevant analyses and discussions.
