Abstract

The ongoing increase in urbanization and traffic congestion creates an urgent and crucial need in our developing country to steer our transportation system management with maximum and utmost efficiency. Traffic signal control optimization is considered one of the major ways to solve traffic problems in urban networks and developing countries. By optimizing the algorithms which are deployed on the traffic signals on a network on a wide scale, the traffic signal control efficiency can be increased which results in reduction in the delay of the vehicles and decreases the number of stops for vehicles, which in turn improves the traffic flow. The congestion on roads and traffic signals may be reduced by the use of good public transport management and traffic management. Introduction of a new automated system which could change the traffic lights based on the density and the presence of an emergency vehicle can save millions of lives. The design of an algorithm which could provide a solution for long traffic jams and the mobility for special vehicles could be worthwhile. Also, according to reports, there are a lot of cases which are registered per year, which are deaths due to accidents on highways and deserted roads. A lot of people lose their lives because of the late accident reporting scenes. To provide an efficient solution for the above so that two vehicles can communicate to one another and provide an optimal solution for accident detection is something the world is looking for. Detection of emergency vehicles is generally done using video surveillances and image processing, but it is slower and faces common issues such as delay in frames. Also, each vehicle can look differently if we look at an ambulance, a fire services vehicle or a police jeep. The only thing which they have in common is the sound of emergency vehicles. To provide an efficient and optimal solution for detection of these vehicles is a need of the hour and serves as a motivation for this project.
